How is the test performed
The test is performed in your doctor’s office or medical center and involves administering eye drops into the eyes to dilate the pupils. You may not be able to drive after the procedure as your answers will remain dilated for up to twelve hours after the procedure. Your head and chin is usually supported so that your head will remain still and focused while your eye doctor captures the images by taking pictures of the inner eye. The fluorescein dye is then injected into your arms and photographed as it moves through your your blood vessels,. Your doctor will continue to take pictures of your blood vessels, tracking the movement of the dye to the retina.
In a normal eye the blood vessels will retain a normal ,healthy shape and size. The test will reveal no leaks, bulges or blockages in the blood vessels. If a problem exists, the result is the opposite, they will show leakages and blockages of the blood vessels.
